What is your favourite…savoury or sweet? Although I love sweet things…like fruit smoothies and banana ice cream and fruit of virtually any kind…my go to choice is always savoury.
I made this smoothie one day because everyone in my house was waking up sick. I didn’t want to be one of them! My immediate thought was…garlic. But it was 7 am and I really didn’t want to sit down and have a meal or even a salad just then…even though I love salad for breakfast…a lot! Today wasn’t one of those days though and I needed my garlic.
So I made this.
And you can change it up in so many ways. In essence…it is a raw soup and can be made that way too. In most of my soups though, I like to add in some bits to chew on like avocado chunks or sprouted sunflower seeds or just peas…my personal favourite 🙂
This time though…I just wanted to drink it and get that garlic in along with my greens and get on with the day. It had me at hello! It is so amazingly delicious that I make it all the time now.
And if you are worried about garlic breath…just chew on a bunch of parsley afterward…garlic gone 🙂
P.S. I never did get sick 🙂
Adding fresh ground pepper to any food dramatically increases the uptake of the nutrients in our food by making it more bio available to us…so add a pinch of pepper whenever you can!
3 large handfuls of mixed greens
4 stalks of celery
2 cups of carrots…cut up
1 bell pepper…any colour…with the seeds
1 cup of water
2-3 cloves of garlic…you decide…you could add more even!
a small piece of fresh ginger
a small slice of red onion
a sliver of jalapeno pepper
a few leaves of fresh basil
Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. You can let it warm up a bit by letting it run for a little longer in the blender.
Top with fresh pepper, a few fresh basil leaves and a stalk of celery.
